Hi everyone,
Today was another awesome day, it started out in Casper with the temperature at about 69 degrees.
It was a 106 mile day and part of the day was a tailwind, although that changed in the afternoon.
I would like to say thank you to Sgt Ron C. of the Douglas PD and his crew who were able to take the time to give us an escort through downtown Douglas and through some pretty rough construction areas.
They also took us over to Jack-o-lope Park and took some pretty cool pix of me, showing what would happen to me, if I ever offended a Jack-o-lope.
Several of the cyclists were there and we were able to take some pix with the Douglas officers and their police cars as they escorted us with lights and flashers on. (Thanks Ron and the gang, you’re the best!)
Later in the day it became hotter and hotter and the water stops became far and few in between.
Also there was a really bad accident on the road we were traveling on, which completely shut down both sides of the road for about 3 hours! (Which meant the sag wagons were slowed down doing their jobs, yet, everyone survived and was safe.)
I saw a lot of trains today, especially a long, long train pulling empty “coal bin” cars … at least 130 cars!
I rode in from the last sag with a faster group of cyclists than I normal ride with and was able to stay with them because our Pennsylvania cyclist was leading the line and kept the pace close to 18 mph!
Once we arrived at the hotel, the Covered Wagon, they had lemonade, ice water and warm chocolate chip cookies for us!
After rap, we went to dinner and then back to the hotel, where I met up with Kim O’Brien, a reporter for the Lusk Herald, who took a picture and took some comments about Life Across America and said it would be the paper tomorrow! That’s about it for now. It’s time for bed already! (because we have a 90 plus miles ride tomorrow, supposedly with a 25 mph headwind!) I sure hope not!
